Clarify the reason for the coverage decision
A health insurance dispute may concern a declined authorisation, reimbursement, a policy exclusion, eligibility or the interpretation of benefit limits. The policy schedule, benefit terms and the insurer’s written reasons provide the starting point for a legal review.
The emirate, insurance scheme and nature of the complaint matter. The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi maintains a health-insurance complaint service; other cases may require a different regulator or an eligible insurance complaint process. A coverage dispute should also be distinguished from a complaint about clinical care.
How the firm can assist
Hyam El Hachem Law Firm can assess the contractual issue, organise the relevant correspondence and help prepare a substantiated challenge. Medical necessity and treatment decisions remain matters for qualified healthcare professionals; supporting clinical evidence can inform the legal analysis.
- Written refusal reasons, policy exclusions, benefit limits and prior-authorisation requirements.
- Reimbursement records and the responsibilities identified in the insurance documents.
- The appropriate insurer, health-regulator or insurance-dispute complaint route.
- Policy schedule, benefits and the relevant insurance membership details.
- Written refusal, authorisation request or disputed reimbursement statement.
- Relevant invoices and supporting clinical documents, shared through an agreed secure process.
An initial outline is enough. Detailed records can follow through a process agreed with the firm.
Questions clients often ask
Do all health insurance complaints follow the same procedure?
No. The relevant emirate, scheme, insurer and subject of the complaint must be identified. A health-regulator procedure may apply, while other insurance complaints require an eligibility assessment for Sanadak or the relevant dispute process.
Is a medical-negligence complaint the same as an insurance dispute?
No. A dispute about payment or insurance coverage differs from an allegation concerning the standard of clinical care. The facts should be assessed first so that the appropriate legal and medical review can be arranged.
